How Not to Buy School Supplies

August 11, 2010

This past weekend was one of Virginia’s “Tax Free Holidays,” when school supplies, clothes and shoes are all tax free. So I loaded up the girls and their school supply lists and headed out on Sunday. I was surprised to find out that J. wanted to go too.

Note to Self: Don’t take J. school supply shopping. I could spend A LONG TIME in the school supply section of a store. I have been known to wander through an Office Max when I have a little time to kill. J. just wanted to check everything off the lists and get out of there. And only buy what they needed. And not “stock up” on things we might need later (we didn’t have to buy any of the 4 composition notebooks The Bug needed because I bought her 6 last August). It definitely sucked some of the fun out of the trip.

So I can’t promise that we won’t go on another school supply shopping trip… just us girls.

Question: what do the girls in first grade do with all those sandwich bags? 50 bags per girl? Really? And 50 snack bags per boy? Huh?
